Rural slums of Banning - Elderly Mexican woman speaks - making this statement (in Spanish) - 'I have lived here for 35 years. I can remember when there were lots of Indians in this section. I have 10 children; we used to go away every year looking for work but now we don't have to. We have never been so well off as we are now that we are on relief. We are getting $14 and $15 a week because now we have a very good president. I don't vote but all my children do. First we give thanks to God for what we have and then our President.' — Dorothea Lange field notes describing image at upper left
